Centenary Medal – Geertje Boschma

Geertje Boschma, PhD, RN is a professor in the UBC School of Nursing. She joined the School in 2004. She teaches in the undergraduate and graduate programs, and serves as the BSN Program Coordinator since January 2019. Her research program centers on the history of nursing and health care, with special emphasis on mental health and the transition towards community mental health services in the twentieth century. She is lead-faculty of the Consortium for Nursing History Inquiry in the School of Nursing. In 2013, she received the Killam Teaching Prize of the University of British Columbia. In 2018, the edited book Nursing History for Contemporary Role Development, in which she co-authored a chapter (with Kylie Smith) received the Mary Roberts Award from the American Association for the History of Nursing for outstanding original research and writing in nursing history.
