Centenary Medal – JoAnn Perry

My affiliation with The School of Nursing began in the masters program, and this was one of those profound occasions when one’s future shifts a bit. It happened because of a teacher, Dr. Mary Cruise, who nurtured my interest in gerontology into something of a passion for gerontology, and who also suggested that “I might be a bit surprised at how much I liked teaching.” So, some 30-odd years later, I retired from UBC having discovered that indeed, I did like teaching, not to mention clinical work and research.

To receive this Medal is indeed an honour, and when considering all of the opportunities and experiences that being a part of the school has afforded me, I want to thank the School not only for awarding me this medal of distinction, but for my career opportunities and the many, many friendships that emerged and grew over my years at UBC.
