Centenary Medal – Ranjit Dhari

I began my nursing career with my graduation from the University of Manitoba with a Baccalaureate Nursing degree and followed up with a Master of Science Nursing from University of British Columbia (UBC). Currently I am in a fulltime Instructor role with the UBC SoN, teaching in the BSN program. I am a mother of three lovely adult children and also an active member of the South Asian community.

I developed my passion for public health nursing early on in Ontario, as a Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) and continued my nursing journey with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH).  I was fortunate to hold various positions with VCH, including a leadership role as the Infant Child and Youth Central Educator where I was responsible for orientating and providing continuing education for all Public Health Nurses in Vancouver Community. At this time of my professional career I received the CRNBC Award of Excellence in Nursing Practice in 1995.  My love of student teaching then brought me to UBC.

At the SoN I have been able to continue my desired focus in public and primary care nursing, along with developing and integrating, the concept of social paediatrics in the school’s curriculum.  Drawing on my nursing and lived experiences I have attempted to enhance students service learning and experiences, focused on a variety of communities and populations with diverse and marginalized populations social and health needs.
