Centenary Medal – Vicky Bungay

After graduating with her BScN from St. Francis Xavier University (’89) Vicky embarked on a career in critical care nursing that spanned over 13 years during which time she obtained her  MN from Dalhousie University (’94). Her deep commitment to fostering health equity for people affected by poverty, violence, stigma and discrimination led her to the public health arena and her doctoral studies at the UBC School of Nursing (’08). Since that time Vicky has developed an innovative program of research that prioritizes strengths based and participatory action approaches to determining effective solutions to inequitable health service delivery, especially among people engaged in sex work and women affected by violence, poverty and problematic substance use. Currently, she is an Associate Professor and the Associate Director for Strategic Initiatives in the UBC School of Nursing. Vicky also holds a Canada Research Chair in Gender, Equity and Community Engagement.
