Sue Foster RN(C), MSN was born in Vancouver and currently resides on the North Shore. Following graduation with a nursing diploma from BCIT in 1987, Sue pursued both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree (1992 and 1995, respectively) at UBC; making her a two-fold UBC School of Nursing graduate. Sue is proud to continue her family’s affiliation with UBC, as both her father and mother attended UBC, as well as, her grandfather who participated in the Great Trek in 1925; Sue’s three children are either current UBC students or recent graduates . Sue has been a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing since 1994, and has worked in a variety of nursing capacities, from acute care at St. Paul’s hospital, to Research Project Director within the UBC School of Nursing. Sue currently works as a Public Health Nurse with Vancouver Coastal Health, North Shore, on the Child and Youth Team, and concurrently works as a sessional Clinical Instructor at the UBC School of Nursing, within the context of community and social pediatrics. Some of Sue’s notable nursing achievements include her research work with Dr. Elizabeth Saewyc, where she designed a tool adapted from the Minnesota Model, to track public health nursing interventions over time. The research resulted in the implementation of the Minnesota Model as the Vancouver Coastal Health Regional Practice Model for public health nursing. Additionally, Sue has been instrumental in facilitating a successful working partnership between the UBC School of Nursing and Vancouver Coastal Health, North Shore, by establishing clinical placements for UBC nursing students. Sue is currently working on a quality improvement initiative that addresses barriers to accessing health services for a geographically vulnerable youth population on the North Shore. |
