Joan (Coursier) Lansdell BSN’58

April 10, 1934 to September 24, 2022

On behalf of Joan’s sons, granddaughters, nieces, nephews and dear friends, we share with great sadness the loss of our mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, Joan Patricia (Coursier) Lansdell on Saturday September 24th, 2022.

Joan is survived by her two sons, Mike (Kim) and Sean (Susan) Madill, grandchildren Claire, Hannah, and Philippa and stepdaughter Candace Dart and family. She was predeceased by her husband Edwin Lansdell in 2011 and her sisters Doreen Raffa and Marjorie Wise.

Born April 10th, 1934, to Geraldine (Duclos) Coursier and Dr. Heber Leon Coursier in Wainwright, Alberta, Joan made the Okanagan Valley her home from the age of 4 when her family moved to Vernon in 1938.

Joan graduated from UBC with a BSN in 1958. She worked as a Public Health nurse all over British Columbia. Highlights of her career included teaching pediatrics at VGH and developing a new prenatal program for BC Public Health nurses.

Joan was incredibly involved in her community and served on numerous boards and committees including the Okanagan Similkameen Neurological Society, Quota, RNABC Summerland branch, Summerland School Board, South Okanagan Children’s Society and was the Education Chair of the Cancer Society of Summerland. She was a founding member of the Learning Disability Association in Kelowna and the Quest Society for Hearing Enhancement in Summerland.

In her retirement years, she rekindled her childhood love of art. Joan loved being a part of her local arts community and was endlessly artistically inspired by the Okanagan Valley landscapes that surrounded her as well as the places she travelled. She was an active retiree and was an inspiration to many on how to age with grace and great spirit.

The family will be gathering in Spring 2023 for a Celebration of Life. The family wishes to thank the nurses of Moog & Friends Hospice for their compassionate care. Donations in memory can be made to the BC Cancer Foundation. Condolences can be sent to the family by visiting www.everdenrust.com.
